Written by: Mohamed Sarhan The pre-match press conference for the upcoming ADNOC Pro League match between Al Nasr and Sharjah was held this evening, attended by the first team’s head coach Alfred Schreuder and Dutch player Leroy Fer. At the beginning of his remarks, Coach Alfred Schreuder expressed his gratitude to the members of the Al Nasr Football Company Board of Directors, saying: “I would like to thank Mr. Abdullah bin Touq, Chairman of the Board, Mr. Abdullah Al-Tayer, a board member, and all other members of the board who have submitted their resignations. This was sad news for me, as this was the first board I worked with at Al Nasr, and they were always supportive. Thank you for everything.” Schreuder revealed his decision not to continue with the team after the current season, stating: “I informed the club’s chairman a while ago that I will not continue after this season. We have only six matches left, and then I will leave. I am very happy to be part of this club, and we will give everything we have to finish the season in the best way possible.” Regarding the team’s ambitions, he added: “We were aiming to reach the final of the Gulf Championship, and that was a clear goal, but unfortunately, we did not succeed. I take full responsibility, even though we gave it everything we had, and everyone saw the matches.” On facing Sharjah, Schreuder said: “It will definitely be a very tough match. Sharjah is a strong team and performed well in their last game, but our team is ready, and we will fight to achieve victory.” For his part, player Leroy Fer emphasized the importance of the upcoming match, pointing out the players’ readiness to give their best against Sharjah. He said: “Sharjah is a very strong opponent, but we proved in our last match against Al Wahda that we have a strong team capable of competing, and we played one of our best matches of the season.” He added: “We’ll be playing at home on Friday in front of our fans, and we will do everything we can to win because we deserve it.” When asked to assess the season, Fer said: “The season wasn’t as bad as it seems. We had some very good moments — we won the UAE-Qatar Super Cup and reached the semi-finals of the Gulf Champions League. Until the end of January, the results were quite good, but in the recent period, we began to drop some points.” He concluded: “This is my first season with Al Nasr, and I’m happy with what I’ve contributed so far, even if luck wasn’t on our side in some phases.”
